Youth Coaching

In-school or club-based

The important thing when teaching children is to make the classes fun and to make sure everyone feels involved and included.

Rather than simply focus on competition, we use a variety of approaches to help children really engage with tennis, tailored according to their age group.

Red Ball (age 5-7)

Younger children don’t always understand the game so we begin by using picture book stories to stimulate their imagination and make things a little magical. At this age, we use larger softer red balls which bounce lower and move more slowly than other sizes, making them easier to follow and hit.

Orange Ball (age 8-9)

Orange balls bounce more quickly and higher than red, making it more fun and challenging for slightly older children.

Green Ball (age 9-11)

We’re now close to the standard yellow ball used by older players, but with slightly less compression and bounce.

Yellow Ball (age 12-16)

At this stage, we’re using the standard ‘adult’ tennis ball, and conversations are now more typically tennis-focused and less imagination-based. We work on a combination of drills and match play to start really developing tennis skills.

We run Youth Coaching sessions, After School Clubs and offer one-to-one and doubles coaching for children of all abilities.
